Another great day at Scotland Farm Steady south-west breeze 5 to 8 knots, slightly overcast but warm and shorts were the order of the day. 11 competitors turned out for the I.O.M Championship and another two for the DF 95, Roger Bacon kindly turned out to do our scoring and a big thanks to him and our race officer and assistant Rob Wilson and David Thomas. The course was long in fact almost the complete length of the lake sailing from the East bank, consequently eight races of good quality were sailed,, Mick Chamberlain was quick into his stride with a new rig with different prebend , but old sails and got the first two bullets. Jen Hand was never far away and Alan Newman had two good races and then seemed to slip out of gear before coming good at the end. We welcomed new Member of the club Peter Cogill sailing his new V9 and although he came close on a couple of occasions, it is early days in the tuning set up. Mick Cooper is really starting to enjoy his racing and with his lintel ( on not a lintel day ) proved a point getting a well deserved 6th on the day. A potential new member Doug Hearn sailing his Brad Gibson design Alternative , hopefully found the club a friendly place to be on a Sunday morning and has promised to return in the not to distant future. A few shenanigans off the water has managed to persuade ten of the swans on the lake to find another place to feed, hopefully on a permanent basis.
All in all a pleasant day with Mick Cooper supplying some superb cake for the birthday treat, and everybody went home smiling .
A real ding-dong battle between Ivan and Gordon, match racing their way around the course, and although starting only 2 minutes before the I.O.M fleet they always finished around the same time sometimes ahead. We just need a couple more DF 95’s and the racing would be very exciting , keep your eye on the series to see who is in front after this round .
A Quick reminder to all club members and visitors , get your entry in for next weeks Midland district race 26th June ,( yes it’s all downhill to Xmas after that ) do it through the M.Y.A online or if you are having difficulty let me know
