M.D.W.S.ROUND 4 and GIBBS TROPHY

Lincoln offered a warm welcome to 24 visitors for the final round of the winter series. Trouble was the lake was not warm at all and when the race team arrived at 8am the lake had a covering of ice that almost put the event in jeopardy, a couple of guys jumped into the dingy and started rowing around the course where the buoys were to try to break it up, but is was stubborn and with no wind did not help , By 0930 am most of the competitors lined the banks of the lake and looked on with amusement at two crazy guys using a rowing boat to try to clear the course , a short meeting was convened and a postponement sorted till 11am , with a bit of breeze filling in the team with the help of some of the competitors worked feverishly to try to get some racing on , the weather was fantastic and eventually at 1130 the first race was run, in two heats , and on the third race the ice flow had moved close to the weather mark ( unbeknown to the race committee so when the skippers tried to round the weather mark they all got stuck in the ice ( is this a first ) heat abandoned ice breakers to the lake , a change of course and within half an hour we were running again, and this time we carried on and at the end of the day had manages 16 heats, and we think everybody went home happy, especially the winner on the day ,, and chief getting stuck in to the ice breaking man  Darin Ballington, the results are posted below and some pictures it is hoped to show  a short video of the days proceedings at a later date. Lincoln would like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding on the day.

LINCOLN WINTER WARMER RESULTS

The inaugural Lincoln winter warmer got under way on Sunday 30th January with clear sky’s bright sunshine and a brisk south-westerly to blow any cobwebs away , After a welcome from the Lincoln club with bacon rolls ( as many as you could handle ) the 16 competitors were seeded into two fleets, B rig was selected even though there were some pretty hefty gusts coming down the lake and real waves made life interesting , with the seeding races completed skippers unanimously decided on C rig and that is how it remained for the rest of the event , the early races being contested by Tony Edwards closely followed by two guy’s who have not sailed for more than 1 year Gordon Sears and Martin Lambert , Britpop and Lintel respectively ,Dave Gunson and Graham Whalley sailing their Moster’s were not to far away . At the end of the day there were one or two breakages and one or two retirements but the action continued till the last race , and whilst Tony started the day well Gordon finished in fine style with a great victory in the final thrilling race, but not quite enough to take the series spoils ,  results are below click to enlarge.

LINCOLN WINTER WARMER THIS SUNDAY

Hi everybody, I hope you all had a great Xmas and are now relaxed with feet up watching the sport on TV , The entry for our Winter Warmer has reached 16 and there may be one or two late entries enticed by the smell and fragrance of bacon bap’s on the Barbie with succulent red or brown sauce , Get there early if you want to enjoy them , The weather looks as if it is going to be fine and at the moment the wind is looking to be in the south-west about 15/18 knot’s , I would ask that you bring flasks or drink of some kind ( whisky or brandy are not banned ) and because our new launching platform has not been done yet , it would be a good idea to wear wellies to help the visitor’s  launch their boats ,( cos the jetty only holds two at a time) , Myself and Jackie will be doing what we can and I know Ivan will help out on the cooking of the Bacon , If anybody wants to lend a hand in any way they will be most welcome , Wrap up warm and let’s have a great day .
