2014 NATIONAL VETERANS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2014 Championships were held just outside Norwich in a little village called Trowse , hosted by Vinnie and the lads of Norwich Model Yacht club, The weather hosted its usual tricks and we were treated to some good winds with a healthy dollop of rain on both days , the race course was fluky on the first day Saturday and I would say not so fluky on the Sunday , Early leader Mark Dennis was never really in trouble winning the event with last years winner coming home in second place , Dennis Payne sailed his pants of on both days with some great results to gain a third place.

Vinnie kept the racing moving and both fleets had some fine racing , There were a couple of Casualty’s Val took a heavy tumble before racing started and was then confined to doing the results from her bed as they were phoned through , ( we hope she is a bit better now ) and Lincoln’s own Chaz Jordan had a heavy fall and managed to break a couple of boats and a cradle , The man is Ok I am pleased to say but it was an expensive weekend for him. especially after he was stopped by the motorway police on the way home !!!!!! not for anything wrong you understand but it is a long story , Lincoln’s other two members faired quite well with Jenny Hand Sailing very well despite the very trying conditions and would have come in a very creditable 17 had it not been for a breakage in one of the last few races when her jib pivot point broke , Mick Chamberlain gaining a 4th , so he has now had a 2nd a 3rd and a 4th over the last three years ( so not getting any better is he )
