DRAGON FORCE & RG65 WINTER SERIES ROUND FOUR

What a fantastic day , full on sunshine perfect south west breeze for top suits or B suits, you could not have had it better.  8 competitors, Hello !!!!  Ok we had a two or three  of skippers that had perfect excuses, but 8 competitors !!. We have over 20 Dragons in the club, come on down and have some fun.

What was noticeable here was an improvement in skipper’s who have not been sailing too long, gradually they are getting the trim right and quickly learning the fastest  way up the first beat, Still work to do,  but you can see it is coming together , Son Beats Dad in the RG 65 series , which will be stated separate in the series results. Thanks to everybody for a great morning of 6 quality races . check your results below .

I.O.M WINTER SERIES ROUND THREE .

Nice one , 12 competitors came to the line for round three and despite a pretty gloomy forecast we all had a cracking days racing. The fleet started with top suit and sailed off the South bank, with two long and quite tricky beats you really needed to know the shifts and take advantage when they came your way , Darin set off and won the first three races, at astonishing speed, the weather was dry up until around 11am when a break for coffee was called , as we were having coffee the option to change to B suit was offered and half the fleet decided to stay on Top suit , the right decision however was just  B suit by a whisker, and the racing fast and furious , By 1130 am the rain stated to come down but we were all having so much fun we hardly noticed it. There were some notable good results from a few skippers, Chris Corrin was very consistent and gained a couple of 4th’s Gordon Bennett was sailing very well and put a 3rd on the board, Geoff Burrell a relative newcomer to the sport ( well that’s what he told us ) sailed very well getting a couple of 3rd places. The competition at the front of the fleet is hotly contested, but Darin remains the bench mark with his lovely red boat, and is very hard to beat. But Dave Burke took two from him and Mick Chamberlain one, and we are determined, very determined to ensure we keep him on his toes .  Well done to everybody for a fantastic mornings racing .  Those of you who believed the weather forecast , we are sorry you missed a great morning .

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 38,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 14 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

DRAGON FORCE & RG 65 ROUND THREE WINTER SERIES

Snip of results from round three 20th December 2015

12 Competitors came to the line for the last race of 2015 , round 3 of the D/F & RG 65 winter series , It would have been 14 but for two skippers having problems before the start of proceedings. The morning started in brilliant sunshine and a brisk South westerly just took the edge off temperatures which remained around 10 degrees, so very warm for the time of the year , John Tushingham was our guest and certainly showed everybody how a Dragon should be sailed , He also brought a new design that will be launched around March next year the Dragon Flite 95 that caused a lot of interest and most members had a go and were suitably impressed by the speed and balance of the boat, On to the racing which was hard-fought and exciting ,  most skippers had B rig but one or two only had A rig available and suffered in the strong winds. Three new members came down with their Dragons  and I believe learnt quite a lot as the morning wore on. There were some notable results well worth mentioning, Gordon Bennett ( 23 ) sailed exceptionally well to gain a third place, just one point behind Dave Burke,  Chris Corrin sailing a borrowed boat was consistently good, and Bert Whitehead in only his first full season of sailing just got better and better, and gained a second place in race 5. The fleet/class gets stronger at Scotland Farm and we all look forward to 2016 , many thanks go to Phil who did the scoring for us. At tea break Mulled wine and mince pies plus other delicacies were the order of the day, with smiles all round .

Merry Xmas to all our friends and foe’s this Xmas , and great sailing for you all in 2016
