DF 65 Winter series round one 14th October 2018
8 Skippers arrived at the lake amid the rain that never stopped but thankfully lighter winds than we had yesterday. A mixture of A and A+ rigs were on show and initially A+ was favorite, a short course with 3 laps was laid and briefing done, Adrian ( 63 ) just got his boat on the water in time for the first start and promptly romped away with the bullitt closely followed by the two Micks. Race two Adrian again took control and was first over this time followed by Alan Edgar ( 890) with Mick Cooper have brain fade halway up the first beat, his worst result all morning and he will be left thinking whatmight have been !!!!!!. despite the teeming rain the bank was lighthearted and the racing was very very good, so all you guys who stayed in bed missed a great day. Coffee was called after 4 races and we all crammed into the shed/clubhouse for refreshments It seemed that cake was in short supply. on a return to the water Alan Newman had a water problem with his transmitter and could take no further part. Mick Cooper was ready fo a victory and thats just what happend in race 5 , with his A + rig he took full advantage on the downwind sections but found it difficult to tack upwind , he soon got the hang of a gybe tack and won a great race, Adrian had a rudder problem which would not get resolved and in the last two races Gordon Bennett showed his skill in the building breeze with two second places. Mick Chamberlain won the day.
No Salad was experienced in the making of round one .
Thanks to all the guys for helping out and giving us all some great racing on probably the worst day of the year so far.
DF 65 Summer series round 9
This Post should have been 30th September 2018
6 skippers showed up for round 9 of the DF 65 summer series on a chilly and overcast morning The breeze fluctuated between 5 and 10 knots and varied in direction giving the skippers an interesting beat . Bill aided by Chaz ran the mornings racing, Phil was a little slow to get going but when he did he got 5 straight bulletts, Bill came in second. I understand it was an enjoyable mornings racing and must apolagise for the lateness of this report as the two main correspondents have been away on National duty , I would also add that the final series result will not be published untill the end of October due to ourt current scorer having a nice time in Turkey on a real sailboat .
CLIVE HAND 2018
8am and not a breath of wind, as the Lincoln team arrived to get the boiler going for tea and coffee, and more importantly the club house cooker for the now legendary Lincoln Sausage burgers. Competitors arrived in drips and drabs the flags were put up and showed no signs of life, The motor home campers stirred into life after a chilly night and having having driven a very long way from the south coast of England, but hey enough of all that nonsense what about the racing.
The V9 of David Alston and the Brit Pop of Darin Ballington won the seeding races after a short delay ( the only delay in the whole day) and then David won the first A fleet race before his day turned a kinda pear shape ( sorry Dave ) We then get to race 4 and Derek Priestley got moving winning the next two races with his slightly older boat and Nigel Brown our eventual winner was getting to grips with his nearly new Sedici, gaining a fifth place, battles were going on all across both fleets with some great racing, and I have to say, good course setting by OOD Peter Cogill, The Breeze got better by Lunch time probably around 6/8 knots and the beat was no easy task but playing the shifts paid dividends as it does in any race, getting to know them was a little tricky. Races 6 and 7 were won by Nigel when the scores were neck and neck with Derek, at the end it was 20 points apiece, and Nigel edged it on count back with Darin Ballington taking third spot. All in all a good day at Lincoln steady breeze and warm sunshine great hospitality by all the helpers tasty cakes in the afternoon all calorie free I was told.
Many many thanks to all the helpers and competitors for making it a special day and you will be pleased to know that £ 100 plus was raised for the R.N.L.I so thanks for your generosity.
We hope to see you all again soon and especially for the same event next year. One or two pics below and well done Nigel Brown from the Gosport club .
I.O.M & DF 95 Summer series round nine
Another good day at the lake , with a north westerly breeze 8/10 knots and nice sunshine, it was a little chilly but some great racing in the I.O.M fleet .
Course was a little ziggy zaggy but the old boys soon got the hang of it , certainly by coffee break. Welcome to our visitor Paul from the Cotswolds, who won the first race before our superstar Thespian got the measure and remembered the course and took 7 straight bullitts. Roger bacon our OOD did very well with his Gadget getting a third place. This racing malarky is all about consistancy and to do well you must be consistant, I am sure there are books about it but hey ho. Very well done to Chris with 7 wins and two seconds which he discarded ( consistancy !!!!! ), he has almost been tempted to come and play with the Midland district boys and girls. Thanks to all who helped out with the dingy and stuff. great racing
DF 95 racing
