DF95 Summer Series 13th September 2026
This being the last of the DF95 Summer Series the turnout was a little low on numbers, but with people competing at IOM events, and the weather forecast showing rain and light winds it was not really surprising people stayed at home.
Your race Officer for the day was down early to start setting up, it was still raining with very little wind. The wind direction dictated a course on the East Bank; this was to be a simple up and down course of two beats and one run which was fine for the first four races. However, whilst having a break after race four the wind went around meaning it was all hand to the pump to move all of the equipment onto the South Bank, where another simple course was set for the next four races. With the wind still veering around and the beats becoming more of a reach the race officer decided that another course change was needed to restore the beat, so a dogleg was put in to give two shorter beats to the windward mark, this was how we sailed for the remainder of the day. Many thanks to everyone who helped the race officer move marks around to help keep the racing moving along at pace which allowed us to get in eleven races.
With only four competitors down to sail there were very few sailing incidents, any penalties incurred were taken in a timely fashion and without argument which made for a relaxed days sailing. The wins were shared amongst all four competitors with Rob Wilson taking four, Sam and Colin each counted three wins each and Kevin taking the final win in race ten having struggled with pace at times. The weed did not prove to be a major problem during the day; however, most competitors had one race where weed influenced their results, (thank goodness for discards). The final results were close with one point separating first and second, on the water it was also close sailing with places being gained and lost within meters of the finish line.
Finally, thanks to everyone with the help given in packing away at the end of a great day’s racing.
Sam (Race Officer)
