IOM Championship and DF 95 Summer Series Round 1 7th May 2017

A fantastic turnout of 21 of the 26 members for the first of the summer series . Weather was cool and the wall to wall stuff did not come. but firstly ;let me chat about the I.O.M championship, 16 skippers !!!!!!  well done all of you and I think you will all agree how exciting it was. The sailing was from the south bank and the wind strength was about 70% of top suit, so a decent breeze. Darin was trying out a new rig in anticipation of heading of to do the world championships in france next friday, but hey on to the racing. 10 races were sailed and Chris E started well and for the first seven races was not out of the top two, Darin kinda took a while to get going but got stronger towards the end, and Rob Wilson put some good results together and it was good to see him back after a bit of an absence.  A couple of stand out skippers were Bob Geary taking 3 x 3rd places so just needs to brush up on his consistancy, and Mick Cooper getting a mid fleet position by hook or by crook, and putting much more experienced skippers in the shade. Also I nottice young Joe Harpham sailing well in a few and only ending up 5 points behind the Brit Pop of Graham K,   Brit Pops took the first 3 places, with the V9 of Mick C doing well to hold onto 4th place. A lot of skippers came from quite a long way to compete,  so very well done to you all and a special vote of thanks to the race team Graham K and Gordon B great job .

Darin todays winner ,and Lincoln most succesful skipper, good luck for the worlds in France next week Lincoln will be watching you

Please lets continue this great attendance if we can, we all enjoy it so much more.  RESULTS BELOW

Five skippers contested the DF 95 summer series a full house for the club, The races for the DF fleet started a minute later than the I.O.M’s and because it was quite a long course only did one lap, it  seemed to work well with the DF finishing just before the I.O.M fleet and as far as I could see no incidents between the two classes. Gordon B 38 sailed a very consistant set of races, with Alan Edgar keepeing him on his toes and sailing the best I have seen him sail winning 4 races, Ivan seemed to stuggle for the first 5 races before geting into his stride and Ed who has only just started sailing has asked for extra tuition on a Wednesday after the work prty has finished. There may be plands for this fleet to have it’s own day soon so all I can say is it is a fantstic one design boat at a decent price, I would like to see this fleet grow in the months to come, and one design means it is the skippers abilitie that will winn the races. well done to all the skippers including Phil who unfortunatley had a winch failure afetr five races.

DF 95 great one design boat at a great price

Dragon Force 65 Summer Series Round 1 23rd April 2017

First round of the summer series and a good turnout with 11 skippers, a steady westerly with nice warm sunshine made for some great races . Ivan Stevenson started well with a fine win, and then Keith Holmes clicked into gear and proved the master of the Dragons with some fine sailing eventually winning the day with 9 points from 9 races, Great thanks to the race team of Roger Bacon and Bob Geary who did an excellent job.  Look forward to the next round which is in the calendar.

IOM Winter Championship and Dragon Flite 95 Winter Series on 16th April 2017

Well thats it the last round done and dusted and congratulations to Keith Holmes for an emphatic win, The weather was actually great , decent breeze and a great course set on the south bank. 8 races were completed, all on top suit, and the rain held off, well just a spot or two, Phil Harpham showed a good  set of results as did Mick Cooper with his Lintel getting better as the morning went on.

Our many thanks to Roger Bowtle our OOD and one or two helper to get the lake organised and especially to all the competitors for making it such an enjoyable morning.

4 Skippers in the DF 95 fleet came to the line for the last in this winter series and Gordon Bennett took the honours from Ivan , It was nice to see Phil Turner who is very new to sailing having a go woith a borowed boat and by the end of racing was getting around the course in promising fashion. The DF 95’s again started with the I.O.M fleet and apart from one small incident the two fleets sailed well with no nasty repurcusions, proving once again that for now the two fleets can work together,

Well done to Gordon for the race win.

I.O.M WINTER SERIES ROUND 7 , 9TH MARCH

Round 7 I.O.M Winter series.

Perfect conditions for the last round of the winter series, a third of the membership came and raced and loved every minute , with temperatures in the low 20’s  and a warm steady  Southerly breeze everybody was happy, OOD’s Darin and Allan set a course along the East bank and with three long beats and two runs there was plenty of time  and opportunity for place changes in the wind shifts and you needed to be on your toes to take advantage.

The usual suspects garnered mostly the first three places, But for once this was not all about the superstars, the racing here was about Mr ordinary        ( no disrespect ) Forget about B/P’s and V9’s ad flash boats coting a few bob , this was about Evos the AB4’s and the Lintels, with odd gadget thrown in and Young Roger Bowtle with his skiff like racer, that’s where the battles were won and lost. The near perfect conditions made for some real battles between these guys and if I picked out a stand out star, well they all were. Just look at the results and see for yourself, If you had been there you would have loved it . I took a few pictures on the day and will try and get them uploaded as soon as possible. Many thanks to the OOD’s and also many thanks to ED and Allan who came along to do the finishing line.

A few tips from the Master about rig tune before racing

Lintel and AB4 keeping the B/P’s honest
