I.O.M ROUND 1 at SCOTLAND FARM

Another fantastic day at Scotland Farm, a little chilly but a perfect top suit breeze that had the fleet sailing along the East bank for most of the day. 10 competitors took part, a lower than normal turnout due to conflicting events elsewhere. Bob Geary 58 and Mick Hunt 131 started strongly and by coffee break it was Bob just edging it   from the two Mick’s, Mick C in fact was only out of the top two on one occasion after the first two races. Around 1130 am the breeze filled in and there  was some doubt about A or B suit and some skippers changed down, Ivan 79 being one of them and his performance got better as the day wore on gaining  a 3rd and a fourth in the last four races. Bob G 58 had to leave at lunch time after a string of good results , and Jim Dinmore must be pleased with himself gaining a fourth in race 16, In fact it was noticed that both Jim and Bert , two of our less experienced sailors were sailing very well throughout the day , Jen Hand was beset with problems, which she is hoping to sort out before the Veterans Nationals at Eastbourne this weekend coming weekend. All skippers enjoyed their day and a chit-chat at Lunch time, when the sun finally showed the lake looked fantastic. 17 races were sailed using most of the East bank,,  and we were told by a walka –  meter that we had walked 4.2 miles during the course of the day,  results are below .

MIDLAND DISTRICT CHAMPION SKIPPER ROUND TWO .

Lincoln hosted round 2 at Scotland farm on what was to be a testing day for both skipper and rigs. Briefing at 0945 had most skippers in B rigs but this was not to last as the wind steadily increased and at a guess was around 25 knots by 11 am forcing everybody to dig out little used C suits . Chris Elliott and the team provided a near perfect beat along the East bank , with one and a half laps for the seeding races and then two and a half laps for the rest of the day. each heat was taking around ten Minutes and a good flow was maintained to get as many races as possible in the now extreme conditions.

Bacon Butties and tea and coffee greeted the competitors on arrival in the gazebo on the South bank . It was lucky this was done early in the piece when the wind was only around 16 knots , as at 1130 the Gazebo folded big style in the strong gusts and was eventually dismantled by a couple of the crew whilst racing continued. Early pace was set By Don Charlesworth GBR 77 with his bright red New ish Britpop wining his seeding race and the first A fleet race, unfortunately for some reason the wheels then fell off for Don , also having major problems was Dave Burke GBR 30 with his sheets coming off the winch, calm was needed and Dave missed two races sorting it out and then came back with a vengeance winning the next three races and putting John Tushinghams GBR 51  lead in doubt, John did bounce back winning the last two and taking the honors for the day with 10 points from 8 races a very creditable performance, Dave Burke sailing for the Lincoln club got 2nd with Don in 3rd. The Lincoln club had some very good results with Neil Coleman in 7th and Phil Harpham in a borrowed boat came in 11th , Best lady was Liz Tushingham in 12th. I am sure lots of skippers will analyze the race results and pin point where they could have done better, The conditions were extreme,  and congratulations must be given to all who sailed. A massive vote of thanks to all the helpers who made this event possible,,  and the many who also sailed and helped from not just Lincoln , they are the true hero’s and they know who they are . I have some pictures that I will try to put on via Flickr so bear with me also the results are below.

OPEN DAY SUCCESS at Scotland Farm

P1040367

Lincoln Model Yacht club held its open day on Sunday 8th March and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of visitors who came to try out this addictive sport/hobby . It was a little chilly early on and a course for the less experienced skipper was set up close to the south bank , and a fairly long race course with a windward / leeward theme was set up for the more experienced , with some great racing Young and old alike came to try , and all were pleasantly surprised by the skill needed to get the best out of the yachts , many members were on hand to help and advise and the club welcomed RC yachts all the way from Kent with a selection of Joysway products including the Very popular Dragon Force and also a Catamaran not seen before at Scotland Farm .  RC yachts also had a large variety of spares on hand and had a lot of good advise to newcomers to the Sport . Also on show, fresh from the manufacturer was the latest I.O.M from C/M yachts, its owner John Tushingham was very pleased and it will get its first trial in Malta in two weeks time when a number of British skipper attend the Maltese open championship, which two Members of the Lincoln club have been invited to attend.

The rain came down around 130pm but did not dampen spirits , Most dragons were down to B suits and the I.O.M soon followed . Tea, coffee, pork pie , and some loverly cup cakes from Tricia Dinmore kept our spirits high as the rain came down. All in all a very enjoyable day was had by all with many smiling faces and possible some new members for the club which will take membership way beyond the 30 mark . Pictures below are not the greatest quality but give you an idea of what went on .
