I.O.M Summer series round 6

46 just leads from 97

more piccys below all from Geoff Streeter .

Wow fabulous day at the lake steady breeze around 12 knots straight down the banks , course was laid with a bit of a hang back dog leg to  give two good beats, Top race team led by Rob Wilson 12 skippers came out to play Banter on the bank first class, but lets get back to the racing, Mick C got of to a great start with two bullitts helped in the first one by a back marker who took out Rob Wilson while he was close. Rob then won the 3rd race, Chris Graves “Mainly on Starboard”  was fighting hard with some good results, and won race 5 by a country mile ,  all down the field racing was nip and tuck, and some exciting races were unfolding, in the stready but very fluky breeze.

Hardly a sign of the green stuff we think the dye has done a good job so far this year in a slightly deeper lake, so long may it continue. Many thanks to all the helpers and OOD.s all in all a great mornings sailing results below an maybe some pictures will come in tomorow and if so I will add them Thanks to Geoff for doing the scoring and Roger for getting the dingy all ready.

I.O.M Summer series round three

The Morning started with a teach in with rig tuning using Roger Bowtles Brit Pop as a guide for starters then a few basic rules at the weather mark and then a couple of practice starts to try and get the hang of keeping your boat stationary on the start line as the clock winds down, great job by Chris Elliott and many thanks to him a few lessons learned I am sure, and some great questions being fired back at Chis by the tentative audience, 12 skippers in all.

Racing proper got under way by 11am and 6 races were completed by 1pm, Adrian Cripps hot off the line in race one went on to take the win, Before Chris E moved up a gear and took race two. Bob Geary sailed a very consistant set of 6 race discarding his worst position a 4th, great sailing Bob well done. The breeze was between 3/4 and I would say 6 knots and every race and every beat was different.

All in all a good morning for all and combining the racing with the teach in worked well. Well done to Chris for the win, and everybody who helped out.  some pics below

With the rules in progress Chris stressed all these ducks were on Starboard, and also had an overlap!!!

A keen ear for the rules and tuning chat with Chris E

Boat tune and set up

All done with a smile

When everybody had gone the mower got fixed Many thanks Roger .

Chris E winner round three

Martin Lambert & Absent friends trophy for I.O.M

The Martin Lambert & absent friens trophy also incorperating round two of the I.O.M summer series was sailed in near perfect conditions with tempratures well into the twenties and a great breeze from the south around 8 knots 11 skippers turned out and were not disapointed with the sailing. Chris E started well with a couple of Bullitts and then Rob W showed his hand with three on the bounce, we welcomed a couple of visitors Les and David from Market Bosworth, and it was nice to see the late Martin Lamberts wife, who could not stay for the prize giving but left the winners  some nice refreshments. The breeze remained steady all day and there were some great battles going all all through the fleet and with banter to match about everything from hearing aids to port / starb incidents many turned a blind ear !!!, Star of the day was Jen Hand assistant OOD but more than that it was her big birthday and cake was in abundace Thanks Jen .

Nice to see Chaz racing hard and the second place was definatley on merit, Adrian had one or two probs and departed after three races, Good also to see Mick Cooper getting a couple of 2nds a 3rd and a 4th showing that the consistancy is coming along, something we all would like to be better.

All in all a fab days racing and our thanks got to the OOD Peter Cogill and his Assistant and all the helpers that made this event so nice to sail in.
