My apologies for the lateness of this report on our website

Short report on Day 1 of the RM ranking at Lincoln which was won in fine style by Darin Ballington,

Darin Ballington winner of RM 1 at Lincoln

RM Ranking 2 , another short report

Results for the Marblehead Ranking 2 at Lincoln Radio Sailing Club.

After the hectic Saturday, a few beers and meal at the pub, a shorter night’s sleep than usual due to the BST change, 15 boats arrived for the Sunday event.

The A rig was hoisted by all for the morning races where we all enjoyed the racing in limit A rig conditions. These boats look so majestic in their top suit rigs and the racing remained as tight as the Saturday event was. Alas tight racing leads to some collisions and we lost a few boats during the day but as the day wore on and the breeze ebbed away the shifts became the be all and end all deciding each race, so often the right side was favoured and within a minute or two you were wishing you were on the left side of the course!

Inevitably someone had to come out on top and a three way battle for the podium spots was on all day between Graham Bantock, Rob Vice and Darin Ballington.

Graham started strongly, Rob had a good spell around lunch and Darin had his wins after his soup lunch which was offered to all by the host club.

The day was chilly but the applause was warming for the eventual winner Rob Vice from Graham and Darin.

Well done to all who survived unscathed and to those with bump, scraps or holes to fix I hope you enjoy the time in the workshop!

DF TT round 3 & 4 , 1st April, DF 65, & 2nd April ,DF 95, at Scotland Farm, Thorpe on the Hill , Lincoln.

DF 65 Saturday

April 2023 and the DF fleet comes to Scotland Farm , Thorpe on the Hill. First up the DF 65 , 40 skippers from around the country descend on our lake to give some great racing, the wind direction was not the best and ranged from 6 knots to around 10 knots. It was a chilly day with the breeze strait out of the North. Buzz Coleman, from Coalhouse Fort in Essex won the day with an impressive 4 wins from 8 race’s held in two fleets, John Tushingham from the Keighley up on the Yorkshire moors was second and Nigel Brown from the Gosport club , way down South was third Three local skipper’s took part, in this first day of racing , and the club can be commended for their organising ability, Bacon butties , and soup and bread to warm up the coldest hands ,

Team GBR are ready for the DF95 Global’s and have been presented with team shirts by the MYA. Six weeks to go and we are ready to go.

DF 95 Sunday

After a very pleasant dinner and presentation at the Railway inn for about 50 skippers, on the Saturday night , of which 26 were presented with their Global’s shirts for the forthcoming Global’s , (26 was the UK’s allocation in the scheme of things ,,) in May this year, which will be held at Fleetwood in Lancashire, where we have 15 country’s represented from of course around the ” Globe ” Great night and great food with chit chats going on until the early hours.

But I must move on , early Sunday morning and the breeze was lighter , but hey ho it had veered a tad and was now out of the North East , Straight down the lakes East bank, and dare I say it almost perfect conditions. Today we had 52 skippers and so it was necessary, to have 3 fleets . Starting with the Seeding race’s that were won by Craig Richards and David Adam from down South and John Sharman from the North west end of the country, we then had a short break and then some right royal action. The Start line was ( as an observer ) perfect , Skippers will not agree, I am sure , and so we had one or two general recalls, and the first 2 thirds of the beat was just about normal but the last 50/70 yards to the weather mark were a test of everyone’s ability, and it was never the same for each race, At the end of the day the skippers who handled it best were at the top of the leader board, Graig Richards, took the win , closely followed by Dave Adam and John Tushingham . But I have to say very well done to all competitors over the two days of racing, The home club Lincoln had 6 skippers racing on the Sunday so very well done to them, I would also like to say many thanks to the Lincoln club, for putting on the event and all the helpers over the last two days who contributed to a great event, on and off the water.

DF 65 Winter series round 6 and final round 19th March 2023

Wow Spring has sprung , what a fantastic day of racing for the final round of the DF 65 Winter series, wind a little on the light side at times but a perfect windward leeward course set by Alan E and Ed W , The sun was shining , we had visitors , one hopefully will add to the DF 95 fleet , welcome Steve. Mick C got down early as the buoys were all over the lake due to the recent gales .and laid them out on the South bank . Mick Cooper had repaired the tripod for the start box and then went on to do some repaires on a Widget for the other Mick.

Mick C 46 had some bad luck before racing started when his bridle snapped , so he missed the first race , which was won in fine style by the much improved Alan E 890, with Dave R 180 and Jen H 69 second and third respectively, In race two after a hurried repair Mick C 46 , took the win with ease from the chasing pack, The boat sporting some 4 year old Icarex sails from Cat sails .

Race 3 and Mick was again out front but Gordon B 23 and Dave R 180 decided to go right at the gate 1st time round and due to a massive shift ended up well in front with a lead that was uncatchable , fair play. New boy Richard J 699 was getting to grips with his new boat and towards the end was sailing really well, Ed W 31 was also having a much better day.

All in all a great days racing, and many congrats to Mick C 46, who at times seemed on fire with speed in excess. Well done to all fro helping get the gear away and taking turns on the start line. So end of the Winter series and we can look forward to the Summer series that will start in April
