SUNDAY 17/11/2013

Well some of us went and tested the water at our new temporary home lake , and it is really funny but I cannot think of a day we have had this year without a breath of wind , Not even a cats paw , but we had a get together, threw in some buoys , tested the depth, met the landlord and had a couple of drive by visitors. The lake as we all saw has huge potential for us,  while Hykeham sorts its weed problems out. Ivan, Bob, Gordon, Colin, Seymore, Mick, David, all turned up,  and I think were all impressed .  Bob Sheldon our landlord popped down to see what we were up to, and  showed us where the toilet !!!!  was a little gap between the hedge and a tree , and Colin was the first to try it . We now need to sort out getting the small jetty and Dingy moved round during the next week or so and putting some buoys out, we are hoping to leave the buoys in position, and are looking at a retrieval system for the dinghy so that it can be left on a mooring 20 or so yards from the bank . We shall sail at the lake for the next 3/4 weeks with the blessing of the Landlord Bob and then have a get together to see how we all feel ,

We also need to get our heads around having our AGM so if anybody has any idea’s on dates let me know , It is possible we could use the club , but if anybody has other idea’s you know my email.

A TRIBUTE TO CLIVE HAND

It is with sadness that we have to report that IOM skipper and friend of many Clive Hand passed away on Sunday evening,  a recent convert to radio sailing he was well known to those who sailed at district and national level having attended most IOM events that his health would allow over the last few years, he could usually be found in his wheelchair close to the water, helped by his wife Jenny, as competitive as ever, and although he may have appeared quiet you only had to be near him to appreciate his understanding of the rules and technicalities of the sport, along with some strong opinions of the fleets abilities!

Clive was a member of Lincoln MYC having started out at Rotherham MYC and was only recently talking enthusiastically about the opportunities of the Poolsbrook Country Park close to his home.
Clive, Jenny and all the family were keen full size sailors, being members of Sutton in Ashfield SC since the early 60’s and had put in a lot of work at the recent MYA IOM Veteran National Championships only a couple of weeks ago, stepping in to allow others to sail when the event had to be moved from Lincoln MYC.
Clive will be missed by many across the sailing community and we wish to pass on our condolences to Jenny and sons, Paul , Tim and their families.

VETERANS 2013 RESULTS

Our thanks go to the fantastic hospitality received from Sutton in Ashfield sailing club for allowing full facilities including full galley and bar, and weed free sailing area for the weekend 26/27th October for this prestigious National event.  Lincoln had three contestants in the fleet of 21 Chaz Jordan Clive Hand and  Mick Chamberlain who all gave a good account of themselves in the sometimes trying conditions. The Galley always had things on the go from 8am till late with bacon and sausage butties tea and coffee and fantastic Pie and peas at lunch time with I might add two different deserts with custard for those who had room. But on to the sailing , The first race stated with a protest , that was eventually thrown out , but it seemed to set a precedent with many more protests before the event was over, PRO Darin Ballington and ARO Graham Allen did a fantastic job keeping the event moving and running it in an orderly fashion , During the weekend all three suits of sails were used and although it was not cold everybody got slightly damp , But it was a pleasure to dry out by the log burner in the clubhouse. After Day one the top three were quite close with John Arundel leading the pack , Day two on Sunday brought a new rule in , DO NOT recross the finish line after finishing !!!!!!!  Your host ( Me ) wholeheartedly agreed with this at the briefing , and promptly went out and won the first A fleet race, and then for some inexplicable reason went back over the finish line , and was promptly DSQ , Micks next race was also a disaster after getting entangled with another boat , and although he recovered it was not going to be enough to beat the consistent John Arundel . A fantastic weekend was had by all and Praise once again to the Sutton club and their  committee for allowing us to use their facilities , Thanks also to Ivan and Beth for coming down to help cart the props and buoy’s back to Lincoln , and finally all the people from Both Rotherham and Lincoln clubs who popped in to support us , well done
