IOM Winter Championship Round 1 18th January 2015
Probably because of the cold weather and the Midland District Winter Series event at Leicester there were only 5 entries for this event. They were met by a very cold morning and very little wind. However the sky was blue and the sun was shining and a very pleasant mornings sailing was had by all. In view of the spirit of the event hints, tips and opinions were shared frequently. Sailing started on a short course close to the east bank but after 3 races the wind increased from next to nothing to gentle and the course was was extended down the bank. Good sailing was had for the rest of the morning despite the running start dictated by the positions of the marks. This did not cause any great problem due to the relatively small entry. RM Winter series 16th November 2014
In addition to 4 RM’s, 6 IOM’s 3 Dragons and 1 RG65 took to the water in a light shifting breeze to share out the frustration. Despite the difficulties 9 races were completed before the cut off at 13.00, thanks in part to Mick H’s starting sequences. Proceedings were lightened at the coffee break by Chaz’s cake to celebrate his ** birthday – thanks Chaz and many happy returns.

Winter Series 2013-2014
A suggestion has been made that the allocation of trophies should be changed. Instead of having 1st and second places in each class for the summer series only, we should have the winner of each class in both Summer and Winter series. This will be a topic for the AGM to be agreed ( or not )
I have prepared series results sheets for the 2013-4 Winter season from the results I have available. A few things should be noted.
1. It must be clearly understood that the results are not complete and may not be totally representative.
2. The Dragon Force/RG65 class was only introduced part way through the season.
3. The restricted number of RM results available resulted in a three way tie at the top. Using the “most 1st positions” method the winner was resolved. However it was not possible to separate 2nd and 3rd.

7 hardy souls braved the forecast 20 mph wind, 5 IOM and, rather disappointingly. only 2 RM. The wind slowly increased during the morning leading to some exciting moments and lots of sail changing

Many thanks to Bert for giving up a mornings sailing to do the scoring. It was much appreciated.
4 dragons had a go afterwards but were generally overpowered, even the two boats with B rigs. The other two with standard A rig had no chance!
