DF 95 Summer Series Round 6 25th August 2019

A hot sunny day with a wisp of a breeze off the East bank greeted 7 competitors. including one visitor (potential new member?). Although the wind fluctuated in direction during the day it did not significantly increase in strength. Thanks to the race officers who got the best available racing from the morning.

IOM Summer Series Round 10 18th August 2019

Nice weather greeted the 11 skippers for round 10 of the Summer series, Breeze was from the south west and although a/ b suits were on the water it was marginally A suit, Chris G OOD for the day set a great course with three good beats.

. Chris E who leads the Series started well with his B/P winning the first race , but then Mick C’s  Sedici quickly found form winning the next four, we welcomed Graham Whalley from Manor Park sailing a very nice B/P that could easily be confused with Jen Hands new B/P !!!!! Chris G was always a threat when not keeping an eye on the start line. The racing was at times fast and furious and on occasions a bit of downwind diving needed to be avoided if possible, we had two rain showers, one very heavy but it was gone in less than ten minutes and the sun quickly dried your clothing. Getting a good start was paramount and then going as fast as possible on the tricky beat to the first mark. A very enjoyable mornings racing, with the Sedici showing it has the pace to combat the challenge from other classes and record its fourth win in the series.

Many thanks to most of you for helping out especially getting the dingy out at the end also well done to the OOD’s , and a special thanks to Ed W for doing our scoring . It was nice to see exciting competitive racing in preperation for those doing the Nationals next weekend . The day was once again weed free, and the lake does look in superb condition .

DF 65 Summer Series Round 5 11th August 2019

Another great day of racing , and after the recent gales and storms the wind was down to about 15/18 knots from the south west , it made for a great course on the East bank, Bob G and Geoff B set a good course using half the length of the lake with three good beats for each race . 11 skippers turned up , one forgot to bring his boat and was immediately despatched home to get it , Racing started about ten minutes late, but was exciting from start to finish, The beat was tricky with some strong gusts and you needed to be on you toes to get to the weather mark in front , Mick Chamberlain was very quick with his B suit and won the first four races , Keith Jen and Adrian were all chasing hard, with Jen and Adrian getting the upper hand in race 5, with a first and second respectivley . Just before race 6 Mick C was seen with a yellow energy bar in hand, which he tried to keep hidden from view, and when seen with it played it down!!!! he then went on to win the next four races, and was quick to play it down that the bar had made all the differnce . It was good to see the racing get closer as the morning wore on, a good sign that the whole fleet are improving, Tuning and set up are probably more important on the DF 65 class than on the I.O.M so getting it right and keeping it in the memory bank is a priority, The rain held off for the whole morning and it was pleasantly warm 9 races completed so good going.

Many thanks to everybody for helping out especially getting the dingy out at the end well done to the OOD’s  , It was nice to see exciting competitive racing with very little lip movement. The day was once again weed free, and the lake does look in superb condition so we can count ourselves extremely lucky when so many other venues are suffering as we have done in the past ,

IOM Summer Series Round 9 4th August 2019

13 skippers turned out for round 9, could have been 15/16 thank goodness for work, holidays and C,B, A ,, ( just joking) a fine day with a 5/10 knot breeze a little fluky actually a lot fluky ,, and from the south East ( and as we could not use the South bank ) it made course setting very dificult, Rob did his best and the fleet had some great sailing that was yet again WEED FREE , and that means a lot for the club and its members . Rob with his B/P was on top form and won the day, it was good to see Keith H sailing again and he has not lost his competetive spirit, Adrian is getting to grips with the Sedici, just needs to get the rig right and he will be flying, The leader of the series Chris G was missing so expect changes in the series results. Congrats to Rob who not only won but was race officer and did a great job ,Mick Chamberlain who helped get all the gear ready and the bouys relaid ,, Ed W for doing the scoring Graham K for selling the remaining “Scotto”which was drawn at coffee break and the number 49 was drawn,,,,, it was Mick Cooper who could not believe his luck and gave everyone a boiled sweet,

Good days sailing at Scotland farm when so many other venues are suffering from W issues , we are so lucky .
