DF95 Summer Series – 8 September

RO Mike W 76 was at the lake early and set up ready for what was going to be a day of light twitchy winds, and pretty muggy with it too.

Racing stayed on the south bank. The normal 3 beats was planned, but the first race was soon shortened by a lap due to the light conditions, and all subsequent races were kept to just once through the gate too. That said, it allowed for 10 races to be run.A change to the east bank was discussed at the break but within minutes of thinking ‘yeah probably’, the wind had backed once more.

A visiting family were able to try rc sailing at it’s (not) exhilarating best, with Jen H 69 and Mick C 39 handing over the controls to the youngsters to have a try. Future members, perhaps!

A few races were a bit of a ‘one tack drag’ upwind, but a further backing at the end of the morning brought the course pretty square and upped the shifty tactical challenge. Even so the wind at the top marks was the patchier, and still very twitchy, with many places swapped over a 20m distance.

Consistency, clean starts and clear air seemed to be vital – as always! Many finishes came down to just inches, and every skipper achieved at least a top 3 finish.

Colin H 301 took the day (now dizzy from managing 5 bullets), with Mick C 46 and Kevin E 02 following up close behind.

The gear was tidied away by everyone in short order as usual. Thanks to Mike W for organising a great day’s racing despite the challenging wind, and to all for the friendly atmosphere. Well done to Colin H for the win.

That concludes the DF95 Summer Series, here are today’s results and the final league table:
