DF95 Summer Series – 8 September

RO Mike W 76 was at the lake early and set up ready for what was going to be a day of light twitchy winds, and pretty muggy with it too.

Racing stayed on the south bank. The normal 3 beats was planned, but the first race was soon shortened by a lap due to the light conditions, and all subsequent races were kept to just once through the gate too. That said, it allowed for 10 races to be run.A change to the east bank was discussed at the break but within minutes of thinking ‘yeah probably’, the wind had backed once more.

A visiting family were able to try rc sailing at it’s (not) exhilarating best, with Jen H 69 and Mick C 39 handing over the controls to the youngsters to have a try. Future members, perhaps!

A few races were a bit of a ‘one tack drag’ upwind, but a further backing at the end of the morning brought the course pretty square and upped the shifty tactical challenge. Even so the wind at the top marks was the patchier, and still very twitchy, with many places swapped over a 20m distance.

Consistency, clean starts and clear air seemed to be vital – as always! Many finishes came down to just inches, and every skipper achieved at least a top 3 finish.

Colin H 301 took the day (now dizzy from managing 5 bullets), with Mick C 46 and Kevin E 02 following up close behind.

The gear was tidied away by everyone in short order as usual. Thanks to Mike W for organising a great day’s racing despite the challenging wind, and to all for the friendly atmosphere. Well done to Colin H for the win.

That concludes the DF95 Summer Series, here are today’s results and the final league table:

DF 95 Winter Series 2023-24

Ok The Final round has been run and we do have a winner after a great Winter series , where at one time or another 22 skippers took part, I can see the upcoming Summer series will be hotly contested.

The final results as you can see are Micky boy on the top spot, very close in second spot was Martin, and in third was Tim, things could have been a little different if both Tim and Martyn had not missed two races, look at the scores of the top three , look how close they were, Colin and Jen in 4th and 5th also extremely close and Colin I am sure by doing every race gave himself the best chance. It could be a lot different for the upcoming Summer series that will be for sure, lets just hope that more of the 22 skippers who did take part , will come out to play.

I.O.M WINTER SERIES 2016-7

Hi Everybody , as you know mistakes are sometimes made , A certain person who shall remain nameless M.C, posted the end of series result here before discards had been taken into account, It was pointed out by a member at the club and has now been rectified and the correct results posted below.

What it means is, there may be some place changes but probably more importantly 1st place has changed, I am positive there will be debate on this. But for now Congratulations to the winner Mick Chamberlain, who won three out of the seven heats. What is even more remarkable is that Mick Cooper who only started sailing 15 months ago  came 4th in the series because in effect it is your best 5 races out of  7 , ” in it to win it “

I.O.M WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP 2016-7

Results after round seven  and Keith Holmes held  his lead to take the series by a convincing margin. When I look at the list of skippers that could come out to play , I must say I am a little disapointed, Maybe the summer series we shall have more skippers taking up the challenge, after all its only 2/3 hours on a Sunday morning !!!! and some of our skippers are not entered for any of the series .

Congratulations to Keith for winning the series .
