I.O.M SUMMER SERIES ROUND 7

Round 7 of the i.o.m summer series saw light winds and nice sunshine as 11 competitors came to the line. The westerly breeze was light and very fluky, and at times almost non existent. Jen Hand started well but Dave Thomas quickly got into his stride sailing his Fraktal 2 and continued with a series of very consistent results, That saw him eventually win the event after ten races, Mick C dropped his brand new V9 in the water for the first time and using an old A rig and had some fun, Jen hand has now borrowed a book, that will almost undoubtedly improve her performances and help her obtain the consistency that we all crave. I am not at liberty to disclose the name of the book at this stage. All in all,  a great days racing in challenging conditions. On the day we also welcomed three visitors and a chap from Retford called Steve who seems very keen to get started in our fantastic sport, results below and well done to winner Dave Thomas.

I would also like add that a lot of work has been going on at the lake recently with the Nationals looming, and a lot of members have put in a good few hours on the work parties, We all need to be grateful to those members who have put in their time and have had to forgo there racing temporarily.

I.O.M SUMMER SERIES ROUND 6

A breezy day greeted 15 competitors to Scotland Farm for round six of the summer series , and with the wind forecast to veer and strengthen, racing was stated on the East bank. A top suit breeze from the south west with some nasty little gusts made for some great racing. We had two visitors Barry Raven and Sam Gill to make up the numbers and I am sure they both went home satisfied with there days racing. Neil Coleman and Barry Raven were of to good starts winning the first two races, but then the normal slow starter Dave Burke posted the first bullet in his 6 wins from 13 races, a consistent performance in anybody’s book Rob Wilson again showed signs of good form as did Neil Coleman. Alan Newman sailing an AB4 also seemed to be going well. After 5 races the massive veer came in and the wind direction changed and was coming from the North West, it had also increased in strength and this had skippers changing down to B suit, A new course was set on the South Bank where much work has been carried out with the opinion that it is a great improvement but still more work to do. Now although we started with 15 boats , we ended up with only 10 which was a shame because it was a fantastic day for sailing, sunshine a breeze in equal measures, good banter on the bank, made this a great day , results are posted below . Well done to Dave Burke who now leads the series.

MARTIN LAMBERT MEMORIAL TROPHY & ROUND 5 I.O.M SUMMER SERIES

A windless day greeted the 14 competitors for the Martin Lambert Memorial Trophy. Martin is sadly missed at the lakeside but I am sure he was looking on and keeping an eye on things. We only managed to get five races in the light  and flukey conditions,  and finally called a halt to proceedings at around 2pm. Grainne Lambert came to the lake to present the winner with his plaque, and a very nice photo of Martin, taken last year was presented to Grainne on behalf of the club . A lot of light heated banter was to be heard on the bank as normal, despite the trying conditions. results are posted below with some pictures of the competitors . Many thanks to Jackie for giving up her time to do the scoring.

DRAGON FORCE & RG 65 OPEN WEEKEND

the racing

Saturday 20th June Scotland Farm welcomed 8 competitors, some from quire a long distance . Chaz Jodan was our PRO for the day and racing started promptly at 10 am from the East bank to a gentle south westerly breeze that filled a little as the day wore on. Quickly into his stride with his RG 65 Sliver was Mark Dicks with three straight wins closely followed by both Noel Donaldson and Phil Holiday with their Argons. Mick Chamberlain was fighting it out with John Goodyear to pick up the scraps , and Tom Wilgos was finding the long control area a handful but hanging in there, Jim and Bert sailing their Dragons having their own personal battle , but both managed to finish a fourth place in one of the races. Bert just getting the measure of Jim in the final standings, But the day went to Mark Dicks with 9 wins from 16 races, Thanks go to all competitors for the friendly manner in which racing took place, To Jackie who did the scoring and to Chaz for keeping law and order where necessary, results below .

3rd Phil Holiday 20th June

Phil Holiday 3rd place

Sunday the 21st June was Lincolns round 3 of the summer series and also an open day for visitors. !4 competitors cam from as far afield as Abersoch which is in Wales or as near as dam it  and Ilkley although I noticed that competitor did not have a hat !!. Wind was fresh from the South west and although a couple of races were sailed on the East bank the wind was veering all the time and play resumed on the South bank. Most of us sailed with B rig but some had no other options and had to sail with top suit. John T took a while to get into his stride 5 races to be exact but on race 6 his domination started winning ten races on the trot , a hard act to follow but when your preparation is as thorough as Johns you must expect good results. Chris Elliott must have thought it was going to be a good day with three wins and a second in the first four races, but the breeze built just a little too much for Top suit but all credit to him he hung in there to gain a third overall on the day. Tim Long sailed a super regatta after quite a long layoff to post some great results and get a second on the day, Mark Dicks just missing out to Chris E for the final podium place. Results are posted below but I would like to thank all competitors , and Chaz Jordan for running the event,  Jackie for doing a super job with the scoring despite HMS crashing half way through racing,
