Martin Lambert & Absent Friends Memorial Trophy 18th April 2010

A true summers day for everybody,on the minus side we were in the middle of a high pressure zome and no matter how hard Darin tried to lay a course the breeze what little of it followed him round the clock. But on to the possitives, After a half hour postponment we got ourselves a breeze, we a whisper actually or is it called a Zepher, it was enough to get skipper on the water on the south side and get some very lightwind sailing moving, Social distancing was working well with an anti clockwise sysem in place and full alert for skippers on the start line.

Rob Wilson 97 got of to a fine start in trying to retain the trophy he won in 2019 ( Not raced 2020 Covid 19) but Darin 98 as ever on fine form after spending a lot of time trying to sort a decent course was not to be denied and took the win. As I have said before with such fluky Zephers you need lady luck on your side and in both race 2 and 3 our eventual winner Steve 157 took the wins , Race 4 Chris Elliott made the best of a change of course beforee Darin hit back with a win in race 5. Racing was tight all through the fleet and after returning to our original course that we then left well alone Rob Wilson got another win Dave green from Huntingdon chalked up race 7 with his Ellipsis with a fine win in what must have been the lightest wind of the day and then a show of hands before race 8 had all skippers saying enough was enough with what breeze there was it was dying luckily the race gave skippers their second discard and was won due to some excellent sailing by Lincolns own Jen Hand . Final results are below , But many thanks to all skippers for making this such a nice day.

Martin Lamberts wife came to present the prizes and watch a bit of racing , and it has to be said we did a mini “SCOTTO” as a bonus , and I would like to thank everybody who took part and supported the club it raised £ 50.00 and the winner took half and it was our scorer forthe Day Geoff Streeter ,, the other half went into club funds in our quest to raise money for a new ride on mower, that the club needs .

Finally My apreciation to all our helpers Darin, who tried so hard to give us a course, with Dave B .and Pete W . Jackie, Ed, Tony, who shared our finishing team, Geoff S who did our scoring and Mick C who tried to give you all a good days sailing. Jen who also did a lot of work behind the scenes.

We hope to see you all back in the very near future .

Very well done to Steve Haywood on winning the Martin Lambert & Absent friend Trophy for 2021 .

DF 95 Summer series Round 1

A bitterly cold day saw 10 skippers show up for the first round of the series, The weather well we had everything 2 full blown snow showers , sunshine but most of all some great racing along the south bank and with Chaz’s Landing finaly usable it was allways going to be good. Race 1 had Mike W 839 fast of the line and he was never going to get caught sailing a perfect beat and run, and only Billy Mac 452 got close. Race 2 had the orange 69 sailed by Jen H with the first of 5 wins and on the day she was virtually untouchable despite feeling a little under the weather, Mike W got a good third keeping his consistancy going only just beaten into 2nd place by Pete W 678, It was nice to see Geoff Burrell out racing again after quite a long lay off, lets hope we see more of him .

Jen H won race 3 got a second in race 4 before winning yet again in race 5, the scaps were being fought tooth and nail between Mick C 46 and Pete W 678 with the runner up Mick C just getting the nod due to countback, Some good tight racing throughout the fleet, Roger Bowtle seemed to get better the longer the morning went with some great results in race 8 and 10, it was a fair walk up the beat which was almost the same route march as last weekend , with somebody clocking up 4.1 miles during the 11 races, Quite a few missing face’s probably due to the cold but great racing.

Firstly very well done to Jen who sailed out of her skin with a very consistant set of results to win the day , many thanks to Billy our OOD and all the helpers who made the day so enjoyable, I guess we could all say quite safely, that today we were all “TANGO’D” ( Jens Orange Boat) Results below .

Jens 69 in good company

IOM Summer Series round 1

A fantastic day for round one of the summer series for I.O.M’s at Lincoln

Fifteen skipper’s including two very welcome visitors battled it out on a beatifull day made for sailing, South Westerly breeze that increased through the morning but all skippers retained A rig throughout the 11 races. The OOD’s set a long course off the East bank that tested the fitness of most, and I am sure there are some aching limbs as we wake up on Monday. I was told 6.5 miles most of us walked, controlling our boats.

Rob Wilson was quick of the mark and took race one with Darin B and Tacy B taking second and third spot, Mike Williams who had been been working late on Saturday to rethread his lines and attach to the drum came home in fourth place, a great effort. Race two saw Dave R take top spot with Rob W close by and Pete Walters in third. In Race three Darin B stamped his authority on the event by taking the first of six consecutive wins and sealing his victory on the mornings racing. There were some marked improvements in some skippers sailing abilitie and the racing was excellent, and it was great to see Roger B who had already repaired the mower up at the farm , before joining in the series with His Lintel and in race six got a very good 5th place

Many thanks to the OOD’s and all helpers .

Well done to Darin for his win and also Rob W and Dave R for gettng on the podium . Results, and a couple of pics thanks Greg
