I.O.M, not.the.winter.series 6th December 2020

First time back at the lake for a while, The forecast may well have put a few off, wind 2knots gusting 6 from the south west, temperature not getting above 1 C all day, well we all know that 80% of the time you arrive at the lake and it is different. ended up 6 C and not much breeze.

9 skippers decided to stretch their legs and get some exercise, 7 actually raced one came and went and we welcomed a potential new member , Welcome Tim Cripps , Well the sun shone it was not too cold and there was a zephyr or two  to get us round the course and we all had a nice chit chat, coffee and a mince pie. So to the racing ,, well it was steady,  the first three races we sailed on the East bank had coffee and sailed on the South bank, Mike Williams had his new brit pop to try out , and Tim had brought along a DF 95 to have a go with, it was all very pleasant. The results you can see below , The other Highlight was Geoff Streeter won that thingy that we do on a Saturday night each month, so well done Geoff.  Another member tried out some drone footage sorry cant post on here right now ,,, bit of a typo on the results , it is I.O.M “not the winter series round 4 ” I think”

Those that misssed it not to worry I am sure the full English was worth it !!!!!

A good day at the lake 2019
Great start
Going well

I.O.M n,t,w,s Round two. 1st November 2020

It is with a little sadness that some members due to location and Covid 19 restrictions were not able to be with us for the second round of the series. The fleet was also depleted due to the weather forecast. And so we had 8 skippers, a strong south westerly and luckily no rain. OOD Mike W set the course initially two good beats and a run, but after race two extended to 3 beats and two runs , Jen H 69 took the first win in fine style, trim and set up perfect, and was followed home by Dave R 57 some distance behind, all boats at this time had started on A rigs with the breeze only around 10 to 12 knots.

Race two saw Rob W 97 get the top spot with his brit Pop race three with the wind increasing saw the Sedici of Mick Ch 46 take the win. It was nice to welcome back Adrian C after a very long layoff with his Sedici and it took some time to find his feet, but he certainly had some speed, Races 6 and 7 saw elastic problems for Mick Ch and a good spell for Dave R, rigs were changed down to B and then back up to A for the last race , Jen H had had to retire with a broken shroud and 4 skippers did not start as the wind increased to virtually make A rig un controllable and it was a surprise more damage was not done. Rob Wilson took the win in some very tight racing very well done Rob , Dave R took second spot, Mick Ch third .

The racing at Lincoln has come on in leaps and bounds with all skippers showing great improvement, and I have to say the top half of the fleet are as competetive as anywhere in the country .

A very blustery day with strong gusts, probably not the most enjoyable days racing we have had , but thanks go to Mike Williams for keeping racing flowing and ensuring there were no early starters , also Greg who helped and all the skippers who enjoyed a mornings racing . Not sure when we shall be racing again so watch this space

Just to explain the above Pics , This is not an audacious port tack start by 46, he was allegedley trying to tack under the oncoming starboard boats , but his jib was hooked up to weather and he was unable to tack , resulting in the carnage in picture two where he managed to take out most of the starboard tackers, It is understood he “may” have done six turns before continuing ., but this was nt witnessed.

DF 65 N.T.W.S ROUND ONE 26TH OCTOBER 2020

What a day at Scotland farm, I doubt conditions could have been any better
for the 13 skippers who turned out for heat one of the DF 65 series. A beautiful sunny day, South Westerly around 12/14 knots straight down the lake. You did need to wrap up warm, all racing marks checked and repositioned, to give a long windward / leeward course on the East bank, Mick Cooper got the briefing underway sharp at 0950.

1st race Mick Ch 46 was hot out of the blocks to take the win with Jen H 69
in close contention. The club welcomed a new member Alan who elected to just practice for the morning and so stayed out of the results, 2nd race and Pete W 65 who had been sailing well took the win with Mick Ch taking second and Billy Mc 425 taking third spot.

The shifts on the beat were ready to catch anybody out and so it happened on the third race with Mick Ch and Pete W and with only 20 feet from the line you would have put money on Mick Ch, one shift later Pete W took the win, and Jen Hafter sailing a great race took third spot. Race 5 / 5/ 6/ 7/ Mick Ch proved unstoppable with four straight wins, and in race 6 with the wind at max for A+ rig his elastic tensioner broke, and was hastily repaired with a knot and some super glue, at this time several skippers  had decided to change down to A rig as this was definitely the prudent thing to do, Mick Ch however had used to much super glue and was unable to remove the sheet lines to change down.

It was great to welcome back Alan Edgar after an 8 month Covid 19 enforced layoff, In race 8 Mike W 176 got away to a great start and despite some pressure from Mick Ch held on to the win, well done Mike, Dave Rigby got a couple of seconds, Alan N 232 had his best spell in races 6 and 7, Keith H 669 had some flashes but did not seem to be on his usual form. Mick Co 79 was taking his OOD responsibilities seriously but had a great result in the last race. Pete We 26 continues to improve, and Jen H is really sailing as well as I have ever seen. Mick Ch again had elastic problems in race 10 and was forced to retire when the sheet line came off the drum.

Thanks to everybody who helped the OOD with all the bits and pieces, also
many thanks to Greg for doing our scoring , and also taking some pictures along with Tony which you can see below. Thanks to all skippers for an enjoyable mornings racing, and finally well done to Mick Ch for the impressive win. And selling more Xmas ” SCOTTO” TICKETS .
