Clive & Jenny Hand – Swimathon Marie Curie Cancer

Clive & Jenny Hand – Swimathon Marie Curie Cancer

Posted on March 16, 2012 by pajsh

Those who have seen Clive Hand sailing sailing at various events around the country may be interested in the following words from Tony Edwards.

JENNY’S SWIM FOR MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Many of you will have seen Clive Hand who suffers from SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and competes at the lakeside from his wheelchair.  No longer able to sail full size boats, Clive has taken to radio sailing enthusiastically.  He enjoys both the ability to compete including at the IOM Nationals last year and values the discussion and banter available on the forum and website via his computer.

Clive is a member of the Rotherham Club and those that have seen him quickly realise the remarkable help provided by his wife Jenny.  Not only has she assembled the boat, made up the rigs and fitted the radio gear, but she also rigs the boat at the water, sets the trim, launches and retrieves the boat and Clive.  She also has a busy and responsible working life and as a side line built a lot of their house too.

Twelve years ago Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer which she overcame, but suffered a recurrence this last winter.  Her treatment including radio therapy, has just completed and she is now training to undertake a sponsored 2.5k swim in aid of Marie Currie Cancer Care.  It is part of the Swimathon fundraising weekend 28th and 29th April 2012.

After the Midlands IOM winter series event at Leicesteron 11th March, competitors raised a total of £80 towards Jenny’s sponsorship.  If any other radio sailors wish to help Jenny, any contributions however large or small would be greatly appreciated.  Donations can be made via the following link

Hopefully the forecast will be kind tomorrow.

The New Sign

Hi Guys , just a quickie , We have managed to get the new sign up , we had to wait a while for the cold weather to abate , and then Colin ( the architect ) and myself ( the tradesman ) went down with tools in hand and tall stepladder and  got it up , The Fox and Hounds very kindly letting us use the steel Post in their car park. By the way they do a very nice Sunday lunch and have also said we are very welcome if we wish to use the pub for meetings in the future . May I suggest that some time in the future perhaps after sailing we all call and have a swift half !!! any way all for now , But i would just like to mention the first I.O.M ranking event is being held at Bartley green sailing club on the 3/4 March ,and is being run by Bourneville model boat club, all details can be found on the M.Y.A website , at present I am the only Lincoln member attending but please dont let that put you off ,
I will try and publish a full report on my return
regards
Mick
