I.O.M Summer series round 7, 2nd July 2023

What a fantastic mornings racing, Days like this just keep on coming, great breeze great direction, a little cooler but 18 C, I can take any day of the week . Jen took on OOD with Dave and Tony helping,, It was South bank all the way with a great beat and run course, Mick C was without his usual charge and one kind member loaned a boat for the day , Many thanks. Nine races sailed, we did have nine skippers show up but in the blink of an eye we were down to seven, !!!! It was Rob W 97 all the way, and Dave R 57 taking 2nd and Chris Gravesy Graves 11 getting third, It was as you will have guessed, a B rig day, with some good old gusts coming down the lake, Many thanks to all who made it a great morning, and well done to Rob,, I must admit up till coffee break it looked like being Dave R 57 day but after coffee Rob took control ( not sure what was in his coffee.

DF 65 Summer series round three 25th June 2023

25.06.03 DF 65 Summer Series Round 3

A FEW WORDS ABOUT A FEW BOATS!

Lovely warm sunny day with 11kts+ swirling in from the SSE and swinging up to 30 degrees either way. Not the best direction but Mike W. 76 OOD and Dave R. 180 AOD had a lengthy discussion and waited awhile but no change. The south bank was decided on and Dave set to in the dinghy and laid a “dog leg” with options at the start and finish.

First race was away by 10 with Dave R. 180 setting the pattern for most of the morning, finishing with 7 bullets. It wasn’t quite all his own way though as “big holes” up the beats allowed the lead to change frequently. Both windward marks seemed to be in their own little micro climate! very tricky. Richard J. 699 capitalised in the 5th race and took the win. Alan N. 232 was struggling with an intermittent electrical problem which eventually became permanent.

Plantar Fasciitis put paid to any participation by Mike W. 76.

Congratulations to Dave for the win and many thanks to the race team

Many thanks for the write up by Mike W , and scores from Colin H .

I.O.M Summer series round 6 , 18th June 2023

“Fathers day”, and so the only skippers who turned up were those that had no lunch invitation from there kids , Simples , But for those that came we had quality racing, forecast was for rain all day , but we are not sure where cos it was not at Scotland farm. Just a short report cos I am not used to doing it, but the light breeze was straight down the East bank With two long beat and runs and a shorter beat to the finish, we all rocked up early got it all sorted and raced , Mick C 46 got some great practice with Rob W 97 ready for next weeks ranking up on the moors in Yorkshire, Rob was sailing his Fraktal and so there was not a Brit Pop in site, Dave R 57 beat Rob on countback , and did the majority of the start line work, All in all a great mornings racing with a great bunch of guys, always enough wind but it was a bit fluky, and could catch you out, that is if you weren’t over the line at the start.

report by ” Cheeseburger ” in the absence of the OOD’s

A pair of Venti’s lead off the line , probably both over !!!!!!

DF 95 Summer series Round three. 11th June 2023

A Nor Easter they said, they were right, but not the kinda Nor easter I have been used to. this one had very little breeze loads of Sunshine a bit of 78 year old birthday cake, (cheers Cooperman) , and a fantastic convivial atmosphere, 15 skippers showed up including one welcome visitor, I think his name was Martin, and my goodness has his racing improved since I last saw him. Still a few hotshots missing from the entry list, but hey the calendar is on the website. Peter C 110 and Colin H 301 got there bright and early and got the course sorted, great stuff , and the fickle breeze stayed roughly where it needed to be, we stated off with two and a half beats, but this took around 25 mins and so we reduced the course, Mick C 46 fresh from his Global exploits, took the first two bullets, from Mick Cooper 39 and Kevin E 02, fluky it was and the start line was your first obstacle , it was a little short and in this fluky wind you do not want to be called over early ( do you Greg C 64 !!!) however you needed to be right on the button and keep the boat moving should you wish to get to the weather mark in good shape, Race three Jen H 69 got it spot on and with Greg C 64 in hot pursuit, they were never caught, Sam P 159 taking up third spot, and he was to follow through with some very good results, throughout the morning.

Martyn A 877 took the next bullit, and Sam P 877 took races 5 and 6 pipping Mick C 46 on both occasions. There were some notable good performances and some skippers will take a lot of heart from seeing these results, I am doing this report in place of the OOD and I do hope you will not mind a little critique, ( your getting it anyway) I tuned a few boats before the start , so please try and picture this when you next set up, and try and get close to those settings, I noticed mainly on the beats , that skippers had got into great positions but then got a little excited and suddenly thought there boat would go really well head to wind !!!!!! hello it does not please do one tack of the other and when it light never sheet hard in, give the boat air to breath.

This morning was a great light airs day and I rewalise it can be frustrating , but stick at it and it can only get better.. Well done to the Micky boy for the win and it really was great to see some good performances throughout the fleet, many thanks to all who cleared away and packed up.

Great fleet out which could easily have been 18 to 20 boats ,
