I.O.M Winter series round two 5th November 2023
Cracking day for Radio racers , sunshine, great breeze from West , just North of West to be fair , but it gave us a great beat and run course the full length of the South bank, OOD Darin and Tracy arrived early and got everything sorted, 12 skippers showed up and were rewarded with ten great races, plus a eleven minute coffee break. Straight out of the blocks with the first three Bullets was Darin B 98 which could well be his last race with this Britpop before it moves to its new home, Rob W 97 sailing his old B P was not far behind, so it certainly was Brit Pop city so far, a couple of skippers looked at the set up’s on other skippers boats at the start and after the first couple of races ,, and we hope it did make a little difference. Race three saw the tables turned with Rob and Darin , and with Micky boy trying his hardest to keep them both honest, ( not an easy task ) at least he was keeping his averages low in the Venti, Pete W 65 was not having the best of days especially after doing quite well in the ranking the week before, and we did see rulers and tapes, and info sheets being looked at during Coffee break to try and address whatever the problem was. Roger C 30 with his K2 was having a decent day and won race 5 by getting clear away at the start and keeping his cool, Mick C 46 did the same in Race 6 and was well pleased with his win, Mick Cooper 39 was not on it today, and was blaming the battery Velcro for his dire performance, but to be fair he did suffer a broken shroud, and one or two other problems, so a bit of a wash out day for him, Colin H 54 cant wait to get his boat swapped , a few more weeks yet Colin , and I am sure we will see some better performances from you.
Martin A 60 is imminently looking at a newish boat for himself and we hope to have some news this week on that score , Kevin E 20 also awaiting a hot machine any week soon, he just lost to Mike W 76 on countback with Mike gaining 3 x 7th places , Tracy knows she can do better but was explaining to me ,that she has had immense amounts of work and traveling this past week and also helping her daughter, who is doing a dissertation, ( hope I have spelt that right ) has just taken a bit to much out of her, chin up Tracey , all in all a great day of racing at the club, but we were once again treated to a masterclass from DB , so well done to him . Just when we thought we were getting closer, hey ho . Many thanks also to everybody who helped get the kit away, I am sure most of you noticed how high the level of water is at the moment, The wins were all taken up by the first four skippers Darin getting 7 of them .

IOM winter series Round 1 22nd October 2023
Great day of racing at Scotland farm , after all the rain over the previous two days, all was calm with sunshine a decent top suit breeze, 14 skippers in attendance, including fresh from the Europeans Rob W 97. Tim and Darin sorted out the race course, a good long beat and run , twice round and a final beat to the finish, Pete W 65 after having a whole load of winch trouble on the bank pre race finally sorted it and got it done just in time for the first race, which he duly took the bullet , Mick C 46 was not too far behind taking second spot with Tracey B 49r beating the old man, and taking third, and this was not the only time she risked a lift home !!!! . The course was perfect , bit shifty at time’s but it always is, and it is definitely there to catch you out, so you cannot take your eye of the floaty thing for a second. Race two saw Rob w 97 take top spot Tim H 44 second and Darin B 3 third, race was slightly marred by an incident that took two boats out , one with a broken boom , one with a disfigured lead, but no harm done, there would be a short talk on the Rules at the coffee break , lead by Darin, it seemed to centre on mark rounding, and I am not sure if total agreement was reached, but hey rules are rules, and the advantages to us club sailors is good .
The racing was good throughout the fleet and I remember Mick C 39 getting clean away at a couple of starts and also Kevin E 20 getting some great tacks that took him to the sharp end , but as we have said before,,,, its consistency that counts, and step one with that is making sure you boat holds together for all races, and you steer clear of trouble. We welcomed back after a long absence Chris E 74 and it may well have looked a bit different from what it was a year ago, the fleet now is pretty competitive, and I am sure will only get stronger, but hey it is exciting, And so we have a winner for the first round Pete W 65 , but it was on countback, Pete only won one race , and it was very tight as you can see, with the wins taken down to sixth place. Great day of racing , 8 races sailed .
Nice to see an old member on the banks today , any body recognise Peter Webster, I did .
well done everybody for helping clear up , great day with great people.
