I.O.M SUMMER SERIES ROUND THREE
A chilly start for round three but it soon warmed up as ten skippers came to the line. A good breeze blew from the South west enabling a course to be set on the favored east Bank, all top suits or No 1 rig which ever suits you. Some of the big guns were away and Mick C GBR 46 took full advantage winning the first two races. Rob Wilson was a little slow out of the blocks but as he was race officer, other things were on his mind. Gordon B won the third with Mick C and Rob W breathing down his neck. Racing was close all through the fleet, and it was good to see Ed Whitaker who is very new to sailing getting round the course in good shape, showing that the Wednesday lessons are working. Roger Bowtle was seen to be measuring all sorts on his boat which will help when setting up in future, he was also going much quicker than normal. I take this oportunity to greet new member Chris Graves to the club, sailing his B/P and we hope to see much more of Chris in the future at the club. 10 races were sailed during the morning and the results are posted below, Nice to see the V9 getting the better of the B/P’s this time, and also nice to see Mick Cooper doing well with his explosive TNT, I must say that in the very last race he led all the way until just after the last gate , Rob Wilson was two yards behind and Mick C a further yard behind, all I can say is there was an incident between the two leading boats, close to the bank AGGGGGGGhh I heard someone say , ( inexperience ??? ) and lessons to be learned , but the upshot was it let Mick C through and he led to the finish with a massive grin on his face.
Massive thanks to all the skippers who got there early and got everything set up and to Rob W for being our official for the day. It was a great day’s sailing with a good spirit , just how it should be , so thanks to all .
I.O.M Championship round three + DF 95 summer series round three .
Not to much to report here as both roving reporters were away , a brief chat with one competitor said it was windy and sunny and mainly B rigs were used. Race officer decided not to sail so that left 8 competitors to fight it out on the I.O.M front with Chris E having a clean sweep, with Keith Holmes hanging on to second spot, very close between Bob G and Jen H for the final podium.
Many thanks to all and hopefully fleet numbers will return for round four to try and stop this BP dominance.

With the DF fleet short as well due to the DF 95 Nationals, Gordon B showed his class, but nice to see each skipper recording wins.
The Nationals for this class was at 2 Islands and Mick C did not have too good a weekend ending up aprox 15th out of 40 full report for this can be seen on the DF 95 website

IOM Summer Series Round 2 4th June 2017
First thanks to Darin as designated RO but also as a close second to a number of skippers, too many to name individually, who helped to turn a good day into a great day. Well done one and all.
The day started with a short “teach in” which indicated that there is no need to specify a topic, all that is necessary is to ask “has anyone any questions about last weeks teach in”, the rest follows naturally. Thanks to Darin, Dave and Chris.
The usual, unco-operative Scotland Farm wind was anywhere from west to south west but due to some inspired mark setting by Darin and Dave, several courses were used during the morning without a single mark being moved.
The racing was spoiled to a degree by weed but seemed evenly spread through the fleet so hopefully the overall result was not unduly affected. From 11 races 4 different skippers had a first place but the overall winner was Chris due to consistent placings.
Ed and Alan had their “new” old boats on the water for the first time with mixed results but hopefully experience gained, also a welcome to Chris Graves, a potential new member.

Round 2 of IOM Summer Championship and DF 95 Summer Series 28th May 2017
Another fantastic day at Scotland farm for the combined I.O.M championship and DF 95 series , First up the I.O.M
Darin Ballington fresh from his exploits at the worlds in France and once again showed his class. The morning started with a rules half hour with Chris Elliott giving a chat on different parts of the rules and strategy with a little help from Darin and Dave Burke, and this went down well with the members, so more of that to come in future weeks I am sure. Racing got underway a little late, we sailed off the East bank and because the wind was due west the weather mark was a slight eyesight test, but I have to say a lot less mayhem there than I have seen in the past. We had a couple of visitors, always welcome, but it was Darin who took the first 4 races with Chris in close attendance, It was going to be a brit pop day, taking the three top places. The start line seemed more orderley, probably due to the chat we had, and racing was done with generally good behaviour.
Well done to Darin and many thanks to Race officers Mick and Ed results below

Four skippers contested round two of the DF 95 great breeze and they just did the one lap of the course . again from the East bank. Ivan took control staright away with four wins, Gordon just could not get going early on, but picked up by race five gaining a couple of wins, Alan Edgar got a couple of good results late on but it was not enough to worry Ivan who won the last race and took the top step of the podium. A great racing day and everybody went home happy, I must just mention Ed who was assistant OOD , he got a second in race one , but may have been suufering from a sleep issue as it kinda went downhill after that, Keep practicing Ed it will come good in the end . results below

THE RULES TEACH IN JUST A COUPLE OF PICS .
Best
Mick
