DF 65 SUMMER SERIES ROUND 3

An overcast morning greeted 14 skippers with Keith Holmes and Roger Bacon as Race and Assistant Race Officers.

After Keith had given the briefing, the results of the Summer Sizzle were announced. Mick Chamberlain won the 1st prize of £100, with Geoff Burrell 2nd £50, Graham Keightley 3rd £25 and Dave Geldard 4th £10. Well done to all and a big thank you for your support for the Club. The money raised has been a big help over the last months.

Keith got us off on time with a good beat down the lake and run back to a gate near the clubhouse, and other than a slight tweak on the start line position the course remained unchanged for the 15 races completed. The wind was pretty much as forecast North Easterly and about 12/15 mph. Even though we had a good breeze for the A+ rig, it was extremely fluky, and caught all out with the constant shifts and holes.

The level of racing throughout the fleet is improving week on week, and it was good to see our visitor Simon Fairman, and new member Peter Hellen.

The 15 races proved too much for some and by the last race the fleet was reduced to only 8 skippers. The return to a 1pm finish is something which will have to be looked at and voted on.

report By Jen ,

Mick says , the racing is very close looking at the results pete won two of the races but Jen won 5 so consistancy won the day, We must remember that in a series of 14 or so races you don not have to win them all !!!!! Nice to see Simon from Rofwac I am sure he enjoyed his day and good to see Geoff Burrell starting to knock on the door, I do agree we perhaps need to chat about the times for the racing and try and sort so people do not depart early. Great turnout dont miss the next round on the 25th July .

Nice one Roger

I.O.M Summer series Round 6 20th June 2021

A great day at Lincoln, weather turned out fine with no rain and a decent veering breeze from the North to the East. Thirteen skippers turned out and two of them spent most of the time sitting and contolling their boats from one of the benches on the eastbank, at least they had a sail!!!. Fathers day may have had an adverse effect on numbers and also with some skippers leaving a tad early, we welcomed Darin B from Manor park and hope he enjoyed his day.

14 races were completed and in race one Keith H 88 got of to a cracking start with a win followed by a second and another bullitt in race 3, Rob W 97 was struggling a little in the early stages but picked up the pace around race 5. Jen H 69 had done allsorts to the boat including new mast and sails, and was not quite at her best, but we all know she will sort it. Peter Cogill and Roger Bowtle did a great job as OOD’s and kept everything moving at a good pace, Mick Cooper 39 tried hard but his knee was to painfull and he had to call it a day Mike W 162 had a port and starboard and ended up with his winch lines off the drum. Rob Wilson previously unbeaten had fathers day comitments, as did others, and so at the end we were left with only six racing out of thirteen, which was dissapointing.

Superb win for Keith clearly got the Sedici trim spot on so well done Keith, Tim Hand a good second and Darin our very welcome visitor taking third spot , it would have been so different if everybody had stayed till the end, but we look forward to round seven on the 4th July, I hear that may be independance day. DF 95 Summer Series round 3

DF 95 SUMMER SERIES ROUND THREE 13th June 2021

Sixteen skippers turned out for round three on probably the hottest day of the year, with high pressure all around the breeze was fluky and unstable and was going to be a test for all.

We welcomed two visitors on the day and Mick C lent his boat to Peter Helen but did have a couple of goes himself. Jen H 69 quick out of the blocks as usual won the first race , with Roger B 448 finishing a close second, Peter Cogill 110 1st time out with a DF 95 got a very creditable 3rd . Pete W 678 was a little slow at the start of the event but got better as the morning wore on, Dave G 00 pushed the locals hard with a series of consistant results, and Alan N 438 probably had one of his best results he has ever had and should be very pleased.

No critisism intended, but the start line was far to short for a fleet of 16 boats and more should be done in future to get the dingy launched and make some changes that may be needed to the race course, enough said.

Jen H had so far won 6 races from 9 and was looking like a worthy winner but her last three races did not go her way, Martin A 877 had a fantastic last three races in fact winning one of them, Roger B 448 also came good towards the end with some very consistant results. Billy M 452 probably sailing his last race due to a move further down south supplied loads of cake for his send off which was enjoyed by most, Good luck Billy come back and see us soon.

Tim Cripps I feel is struggling with a knee injury, and we all know what thats like, Gordon B was having a bad day, dont worry he will bounce back, good to see ED W going well , and for the first time out for 18 months Chaz J certainly enjoyed himself despite being stuck in one postion for the duration of racing. ie in the boot of his car .

The top three ,, it was very close with Pete W 678 taking the win on the day, Jen H and Dave G was decided on countback as you can see. A great mornings racing at the club with probably a record number of entries for the DF 95’s and long may it continue. Many thanks to Roger Bowtle who fixed the ride on for us ( Mower) before sailing and of course all the helpers who made the day enjoyable.

Well done to Pete the two wins at the end clinched it .

I.O.M Summer series round 5

I.O.M Summer Series round 5, 6th June 2021

Wow, Great day at Scotland farm for round five , bit more breeze than forecast, and Pete W the OOD was quickly in the boat sorting bouys and a course which was tricky as the breeze was just west of north. Bit of a Zig Zag but the skippers picked it up quickly , 11 of them, and first out across the start line in front Was Chris E 74 getting a great start and holding the lead till the finish, Keith 88 was second but was a determined Skipper and must have had his weetabix as he went on to win 5 from eleven, Dave R 57 came out on the right side of a battle royal with Pete W that was in my view was decided on discards, thats the way it goes. but I have to say top racing between these three, and it was interesting watching, as I was to see how the racing in general has improved in standard all through the fleet at the club. The wins were shared by the top four skippers, in this event and there were some noticable skippers missing.

Radio Lincolnshire’s Radio van turned up just after 11am, our club being one of the clues in Pirates Gold which was good for the club and the second time we have been a part of the show, which helps put us and Radio Racing on the map around lincolnshire.

The clubs ” SCOTTO” was also drawn and both winners were not around to collect their winnings , Adrian also brought along a hanging basket to be auctioned and money raised goes into club funds £ 15.00 raised many thank young man.

Eleven races completed so well done to the OOD’s and all skippers who lent a hand , Congratulation to Keith on the day for some superb sailing and we shall look forward to seeing you all on the 20th June for round 6

Apolagies in advance for quality of pictures as most were taken on Micks old Mobile phone .
